Matthew was our first grandson. He has always been very smart. What other 6 year old would want a set of Encyclopedia Britannica for Christmas?

At five he knew avery major football conference in America and could name every team in each. He was nearly unbeatable in sports trivia. He always wanted to be a lawyer, probably because that is a major sport in the US.

He nearly cried when Marshall took the lead iate in the first Marshall - WVU football game, and his Dad (my son) is a Marshall grad.

He proved how smart he was when he announced that he was going to marry Jen.

Nearly all of the Gatewood men have married "up" so Matthew is following the trend!

I am excited to be present when the deal is done.

Congratulations to both with a proud love.

I am likely one of the people who are as (if not more) excited as you are for your wedding. Seeing you two beautiful people happy and being a part of this special day is a blessing. Jordan and I look forward to 6/22/14. Now, I cant guarantee that we wont be the ones jumping in the water or singing out loud or dancing all night but that's one of the many reasons why we are good friends, not just earthquake or cake or deep friends ;) Also friends for life.

Paul and I cannot wait to come celebrate with you and Matt and comemorate a VERY special day. Though I'll be about 38 weeks pregnant and Paul will be on labor watch, we promise to continue to bring both the noise and the funk to your wedding reception. Paul has special suspenders already chosen and we're working on our choreography with each passing week. We are so excited for you both and as much as we are thankful for the memories we've shared thus far, we're even more excited for what the future has in store. We know it will be great and can't wait to share in the experiences and new memories being made for Jen and Matt 6/22/2014-Forever.

Confetti Toss!

My dad, a very wise and handsome young man, told me that true love is the soul's recognition of its counterpoint in another. It is clear that you've both found this in eachother. My Mom and Dad could not be more proud of you both and are honored to be able to share the best day of your lives with you. My grandfather, the co- proprietor of Feeneys Patio Bar, a.k.a. Sen. Cleary proposed that for your pending nuptials I make you a painting, a gift that I want you to take with you. He of course looks forward to sharing a stogie with the groom at some point during the weekend. Love Always, Sean, Maria, B

Here are my lines....

Far better than prose

Just simple and fine....

Won't compete with my bro's.

Can't wait for your date

And your big whoop-dee-doo

But most important of all

To hear your special.... 'I do'.

Love to both,

Jen and Matt are where it’s At

I simply can't wait

to participate,

in the marriage of that Scott girl to Gatewood.

As the Website does show, and we already know,

these nuptials are bound to be good.

I seriously hope

that I’m not such a Dope,

that I will not remember my lines.

Or that I will fall

Or not show at all, ‘Cause I’ve no recall of date, place or time.

I used to keep up, with modern dance steps

by faithfully watching Dick Clark’s show.

But Dick's of no use, so that’s my excuse,

for keeping my dance profile low.

You need not have fear,

that sappy thoughts you’ll now hear,

since those ideas have already been spoken.

I’ll just close with this thought,

whether you like it or not, we'll be visiting early and often.

Love,

Dad

Traveling to and around St. Michaels

AIRPORTS: The closest major airport is BWI, but you may want to also look at flights into D.C. or even Philadelphia for comparison depending on where you are coming from.

TRAVELING BY CAR: June is peak season for travel to the Eastern Shore. Please allow ample time to get to and from St. Michaels and account for potentially high traffic volumes crossing the Bay Bridge. During the summer travel season, you can learn real time what Bay Bridge traffic is like and how many miles back ups are by calling 1(877)BAY-SPAN (1[877]229-7726). Travel the bridge on Friday before 2 p.m. after 8 p.m., Saturday before 8 a.m. If you travel during peak periods, you should anticipate significant delays both crossing the Bay and traveling on Route 50 in and around Easton en route to St. Michaels. Please have at least $6 cash with you crossing the Bay Bridge going east; there is no westbound toll.

SHORT CUT BY CAR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IF THE DELAY FROM THE BAY BRIDGE IS 4 MILES OR UNDER: If you are traveling during a peak traffic time (meaning you’ve called 1(877)BAY-SPAN [1[877)229-7726] and there is a delay), get off Route 50 a few miles before the Bridge at Exit 28 to Bay Dale Drive (0.1 mi), keep left at the fork following signs for Ferguson Road/Old Mill Bottom Rd S (328 ft) turn LEFT on Ferguson Road, make a RIGHT on Old Mill Bottom Road, then take a LEFT on St. Margarets Road (179), then make a RIGHT to continue on St. Margarets Road (179)/Whitehall Road (St. Margarets Road then turns into Whitehall Road). Continue along Whitehall Road and stay STRAIGHT as it continues on Skidmore Drive (running parallel w/Route 50 the entire way), and then make a LEFT on OCEANIC DRIVE and enter Route 50 EAST just before the Bridge (if you continue on STRAIGHT Old Ferry Slip Road you’ve gone too far; back track and make a RIGHT on OCEANIC DRIVE and enter Route 50 EAST just before the Bridge).

SHORT CUT BY CAR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IF THE DELAY FROM THE BAY BRIDGE IS OVER 4 MILES: please get off an EARLIER exit than route 28 on Route 50 in Annapolis, MD and use your GPS to navigate to "Red, Hot, and Blue" restaurant at 200 Old Mill Bottom Road, Annapolis, MD 21401 via back roads and follow the short cut directions above once you're there.

The bridge can back up as much as 25 miles on any given Friday or Saturday so we highly recommend you leave as early as possible to dodge traffic, save yourselves time, and get over to the shore so you can relax and enjoy quiet Eastern Shore culture.

ONCE IN ST. MICHAELS: If staying in town, everything is a short walk. If you are going to the wedding after party at Carpenter Street Saloon there is free shuttle service back to your hotel. However if you find yourself needing a cab, here are a few recommended taxi companies:

Taxi Cab Companies

Executive Taxi: (410) 820-8294

Bay Country Taxi: (410) 770-9030

Scotty's Gotta Go Taxi: (410) 822-1475

J W Express Taxi: (443) 496-2662

Despite it's small size, there are a wide variety of dining options - everything from crab houses, local seafood restaurants, fancy steakhouses, Italian restaurants, low key pub fare, organic-only options, upscale pizza parlors, and markets for deli sandwiches. You'll also have to check out some of the multiple homemade ice cream parlors in town and locally owned and operated "Blue Crab Coffee." JEN AND MATT'S RECOMMENDED DINING IN ST. MICHAELS:

Matt and Jen recommend the following restaurants:

DINNER:

- Theo's Steaks, Sides & Spirits: Our favorite restaurant in town - similar to big steakhouses in large cities but with the small-town charm of St. Michaels. Prime cuts of meat, local seafood, an extensive wine list, solid vegetables, a friendly and caring staff, neat ambience, and fancy bar make this rank highest on our list of recommendations. Make reservations on Theo's website or call the restaurant. 407 South Talbot Street, St. Michaels, MD, (410) 745-2106, www.theossteakhouse.com

- Crab Claw Restaurant: Get your "crab cakes and football" and steamed crabs fix here. Voted best crab cakes by Southern Living Magazine in January 2010. Enjoy their spectacular harbor view from the air conditioned dining room or watch the daily catch arrive on the outdoor deck. Reservations suggested. 304 Burns Street, St. Michaels, MD, (410) 745-2900, http://www.thecrabclaw.com/

- Ava's Pizzeria: Solid low-key gourmet pizza place next to Theo's on the main drag; same owners as Theo's Steaks, Sides & Spirits. Since opening in 2008, Ava’s Pizzeria & Wine Bar has been awarded “Best New Restaurant” and “Best Pizza” by the readers of What’s Up Magazine as well as “27 Points” for Food Quality from Zagat. Owner and Chef Chris Agharabi worked at Persimmon, continuously recognized as one of “Bethesda’s Best” under the tutelage of Chef Damian Salvatore. With a dedicated staff, unique menu, extensive wine and beer list and an outdoor patio with a retractable roof, fireplaces, and a waterfall, Ava’s serves gourmet pizza, sandwiches & entrees. 409 South Talbot Street, St. Michaels, MD 21663, (410) 745-3081, www.avaspizzeria.com

- Sherwood's Landing (restaurant at the Inn at Perry Cabin): An eclectic menu features fresh seasonal specialities. Watch the moonlight dance across the Miles River as you enjoy fine wines and discreet service. 308 Watkins Lane, St. Michaels, MD, (410) 745-2200, http://www.perrycabin.com/web/omic/restaurants_bars.jsp

- The Purser's Pub (pub at the Inn at Perry Cabin): Sink back into leather chairs by an open-hearth fire. Watch the game or play chess. Dine on pub favorites or enjoy a cocktail in the garden courtyard, laden with blooms. An extensive drinks and nibbles menu. 308 Watkins Lane, St. Michaels, MD, (410) 745-2200, http://www.perrycabin.com/web/omic/restaurants_bars.jsp

LUNCH:

- Crab Claw Restaurant (see above description)

- Carpenter Street Saloon: Low-key lunch spot. Cheap prices and good seafood and burgers. C-Street, as they're affectionately called, prides itself in being the best dive bar ... well, anywhere! In 1887 Henry Clay Dodson, the town pharmacist & brickyard owner, erected this as the first commercial structure in St. Michaels. 113 South Talbot Street, St. Michaels, MD, (410) 745-5111, http://www.carpenterstreetsaloon.com/

- St. Michaels Crab & Steak House: Located on the St. Michaels Harbor, this place serves the steamed crabs, steaks, burgers, crabcakes and appetizers. Indoor/outdoor dock-side seating. Air-conditioned. 305 Mulberry Street, St. Michaels, MD, http://www.stmichaelscrabhouse.com/

- Ava's (see above description)

- Sherwood's Landing (see above description)

- The Purser's Pub (see above description)

SWEETS/ICE CREAM:

- Justine's Ice Cream Parlor: A spot Jen's visited since she was young traveling to St. Michaels on boating excursions iwth her family, Justine's promises delicious homemade ice cream and other tantalizing desserts. Stop in for a sweet treat or to cool off. 106 N Talbot St, St Michaels, MD, (410) 745-0404, http://justinesicecreamparlor.com/

COFFEE/TEA:

- Blue Crab Coffee Co.: Enjoy this locally owned and operated coffee and tea shop, located one block off of Talbot Street in the heart of St. Michaels. 102 Freemont Street, St. Michaels, MD, (410) 745-4155, http://www.bluecrabcoffee.com/

If you've been to St. Michaels before and you're looking to explore other parts of Eastern Shore heritage close by, visit the neighboring historic towns of Oxford and Easton:

    - Visit Oxford: Oxford is a charming, tree-lined, and waterbound village with a population of less than 1000. It's one of the oldest towns in America and has a long history in maritime activities. Early in the day, you will still find local watermen at the town dock unloading the catch of the day. You can watch the sailboats arriving from all over the bay to dine at the various local restaurants our town has to offer. Oxford has retained its historic charm. The tourism and leisure activities are fueled by people's desire for quiet charm, fresh air, summer breezes, and a haven from the hustle and bustle of city life. For more information and a list of activities, visit: http://www.oxfordmd.net/

    - Visit Easton: In Easton's downtown you`ll find boutiques, home décor shops, art galleries, and antique stores. Take a peek at the latest exhibits at the Academy Art Museum. For an infusion of local talent, pop into one of the dozen+ galleries where you will find art created from the palettees of the regions' finest artists. For more information and a list of activities, visit: http://www.eastonmd.org/

    Readers and Greeters

    Pat English

    Reader

Pat English is one of Jen's best friends. Having met 11 years ago during 4th year on the UVA Lawn to spending the last 3 years being roommates, they have experienced it all. They share a love for American Idol (they even went to an Idols Live concert and got to go back stage - thanks to Pat that was Jen's 30th birthday gift!), karaoke, The Bachelor(ette), and all things Top 40 music and pop culture. Their friendship has lasted the miles, stood the test of time, and Jen and Matt are beyond excited, thrilled, and honored for Pat to play such an important part in their wedding. One other note about Pat - you'll never find such a more die hard Kelly Clarkson fan out there in the universe - anywhere. He's even gone so far as to nick name himself "Pat Clarkson" - so watch out for "Pat Clarkson" "winning the wedding!"

    Adam Beebe

    Reader

Jen has known Adam since 4th year at UVA. Going to sing Baja Bean karaoke every Tuesday, to letters exchanged while Adam was in the PeaceCorps right after college, to multiple dinners and nights out since Adam moved back to DC, her and Adam share many beyond phenomenal memories. Jen feels incredibly lucky to have Adam in her life and he's given her wisdom and counsel at some of the times when she's needed it most. Her and Matt are so lucky to welcome Adam into their wedding party. One other small fact about Adam - he has impeccable fashion sense and has even coined the nick name "Jones New York" for his love of accessorizing. Though be careful about giving him your drink or dinner plate since he also has the nick name "drips" and "dribbles." Fashion to fumbles, everyone loves and admires Adam and he's one of Jen and Matt's closest friends.

    David Hanna

    Reader

Matt's Uncle David is Matt's mom's only sibling and lives in Lexington, Kentucky - David and his wife Sarah are the father of three boys. They met in Birmingham, Alabama and moved to Kentucky in the late-1980s where they have since resided. David has from time to time been coaxed into playing roles in the old Gatewood Family Christmas Movies, from King Kong's chief tribal leader to being a "local" interviewed by the Croc Hunter. David will be reading the Prayers of the People at the ceremony.

    Bret Anderson

    Greeter

Jen met Bret 9 years ago during the first orientation session Jen taught at the Advisory Board. This also happened to be Bret's first day at work after graduating undergrad from Dartmouth, so they left quite the impression and have been fast friends since. Bret joins Andrea and Chelsea (bridesmaids) in our self-determined "fam" - who enjoys nights out at Whitlow's and Taco Bell. In fact there's one person who loves Taco Bell more than the CEO himself - and that's Bret Anderson. Finally, while a Cleveland native, Bret will have his hands full this weekend of all things Old Bay, Tabasco, oysters, and clams ... and hopefully we'll see an appearance of his beloved sailboat tie!

    Michael Topp

    Greeter

Jen has known Michael for the last 10 years since he started at the Advisory Board as a Marketing Associate. Michael is a lover of all things Dolly Parton, his beloved pups Finnegan and Reba, and absurd humor. As one of Jen's funniest friends, he will take any situation and make the most of it, finding laughter in even the smallest things. He's also one of Jen's most caring and sincere friends and has been there for her during time when she's needed it the most. Michael and his partner Rob have hosted many a birthday celebration for Jen and her friend Andrea in their 20s and 30s, and they have shared some of their most special moments together. Michael and Rob got married at the most beautiful wedding in MI last year and have just celebrated their 1-year anniversary - congratulations Michael and Rob!

    Our Wedding

    Matt's Groomsmen and Ushers

    Mark Gatewood

    Best Man

Mark (aka "Marcus Welby, M.D.") is the oldest of Matt's two brothers (both younger). Only three years younger than Matthew, he had to endure all of Matthew's "rules" when growing up regardless of the activity in which the two were engaged. Mark moved to Houston last Spring for his work at MRC Global but he and his wife Amber (a bridesmaid) have become loyal vacation partners to the wedding couple, having gone to Italy, Paris, and California with them over the past three years. Mark is still receiving speeding tickets from the cameras that clocked his driving on the Autostrada in Italy when we were there three years ago.

    John Michael Gatewood

    Groomsman

"Wise John" is the youngest of Matt's two brothers, currently clocking in at the age of 24. Of all three Gatewood brothers, John gained the true artistic abilities and is poised for greatness as an artist. If you are in need of any new original artwork, definitely talk to John! One of his original works from years ago resides on Matthew's office wall. Like the rest of the family, JM is a Mountaineer enthusiast, but he wins the award for having the most subjective enthusiasm for the team.

    Jason Scott

    Groomsman

Jen's brother also went to UVA like the rest of the family before going to business school at Northwestern. Jason now works for J.P. Morgan's investor relations group in New York City. Matt first met Jason the night Matt also met Jen's mother, at an Umphreys McGee concert in DC in November 2009. They all had dinner with the band's lead singer Brendan, who is one of Jason's oldest friends, before the band took the stage. Jason made his first trip to Charleston, WV this past holiday season to meet the entire Gatewood family and had his inaugural trip to Tudor's Biscuit World, Fazio's, Diehl's, and Town'n Country Lanes!

    Dylan Sacchetti

    Groomsman

Matthew met Dylan in Matt's junior year at WVU. Orginally from East Fairmont, WV, Dylan now works for the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, DC. Matt & Jen's first international trip involved a week-long excursion to visit Dylan while he was in the Peace Corps in Panama. From taking Jen whitewater rafting for the first time (on a tough river in the mountains) to hiking through the jungle, that trip was quite an eye-opening experience for Jen! Like his role model "the American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, he has dined with kings and queens, slept in alleyways, and dined on pork n' beans.

    Brandon Almond

    Groomsman

Mr. Almond is responsible for setting up the wedding couple at the beginning of 2009. He and his wife Amy were married in the summer of 2011 in Charlottesville and they are expecting their first child in April. He and Matt have run a weekly or bi-weekly happy hour series in D.C. for the past several years, including "A to Z," "The Presidents Club," "The States of the Union," and currently the extremely creative "Vice Presidents Club." Brandon likes tacos, entertaining, cake, making trips to West Virginia, his family and friends, and is sometimes referred to as "The Gravyboat Captain."

    Jason Pizatella

    Groomsman

Matt has known Jason since junior year at WVU, worked with him in the Governor's Office after Matt's 1st year of law school, and the two have gone on many trips together from Mountaineer bowl games to Colorado to all of the county seats south of Charleston. Pizatella is currently Governor Tomblin's Deputy Chief of Staff and has been heavily involved in West Virginia state politics since almost the day he graduated law school from WVU. Although Italian by heritage, his Italian acumen has been questioned since college when J.L. asked him if he wanted at a cannoli at dessert at Puglioni's in Morgantown and his response was, "what's a cannoli?" He has been referred to as "Smith" from that day forward by some.

    Eric Bailey

    Groomsman

Eric, who was born one day apart from Mark, is the son of Matt's dad's sister, Rozanna. Now a dentist near Charleston, has achieved many colorful nicknames over the years (most well before he got married and had his lovely daughter Palmer). Those include Frau Farbissina, Dr. Von Nostrum, and the name that Matt's dad has called him since he was about 5: "Conan the Barbarian" (note, Dr. Eric still appears in Matthew's cell phone as "Conan the Barbarian"). Eric, Mark, and Matt were the geniuses behind the annual Gatewood Family Christmas Movies that have become legendary in the family annals and likely will be attempted again at some point in time.

    Greg Staiti (aka "Jumbo")

    Groomsman

As agile as a marionette, the Tufts hockey goalie and former Sutherland energy associate now works for an energy consulting firm and lives in the Connecticut suburbs. The father of two, "Jumbo" is the only person other than Matthew and Amber to have attended all 7 annual West Virginia cabin trips. Mr. Staiti is a lover of all-things Boston especially including the Sox, surprisingly adept dance moves, and hiking the Dolly Sods in any weather. He and Matt started both started at Sutherland in September 2006 and at the time, lived in the same apartment complex in Northern Virginia.

    Ben Thomas

    Usher

Matthew first met Ben in 1990 when Matthew started attending Holz Elementary for the 5th grade. Although in separate 5th grade classes, Ben sat behind "Gates" in Mrs. Geiger's 6th grade class that went to the Yucatan Peninsula for the class trip (Matthews' dad also went on the trip). Ben moved to Parkersburg after the 7th grade and later went to Notre Dame for college but the two were reunited at W&L where they roomed together for all 3 years of law school at 728B Plunkett Street. When Ben moved back to West Virginia from Charlotte after law school, Matt set him up with his now wife Meredith, whom Matt had met while clerking for Judge Goodwin.

    Jonathan Wright

    Usher

Jonathan lived with Dyan with Matt met him during Jonathan's freshman year at WVU. From sports leagues to bowl trips (including two Gator Bowls, the Sugar Bowl, and the Fiesta Bowl), Jonathan has been part of many legendary moments. Jonathan and his wife Megan now have a little baby boy (Jimmy) and reside in Morgantown.

    Joseph Tino

    Usher

Chef extraordinaire, Mr. Tino annually serves as the resident chef on the annual W.Va. cabin trip. Although Matt knew young Joseph when Tino was a year behind Matt's class at W&L Law, the two did not become close until after law school when Tino spent a lot of time in DC before moving here for a Georgetown graduate program a few years ago. Tino now is back in his native state of Jersey. Before going to W&L, Tino graduated from Cornell (or at least that is what he tells people).

    Jeff Starkey

    Usher

Jeff and Matt started at Sutherland on the same day in September 2006. Although Jeff is in the tax group and Matt in litigation, the two spent a lot of time together out of the office getting to know DC. In the summer of 2012, Matt introduced Jeff to his fiancee Kate, who works with Jen at the Advisory Board. Matt & Jen actually went with Jeff and Kate on their first date at Acadiana. Jeff is originally from upstate New York, went to Colgate undergrad and Georgetown law.

    Our Wedding

    Jen's Bridesmaids

    Amber Gatewood

    Bridesmaid

Amber and Mark got married 7 years ago in Amber's hometown of Philippi, WV. Jen met Amber on her 2nd date with Matt at the "Monster Truck Jam" at the Verizon Center in DC. With Jen thankfully having "passed the test," she and Amber became fast friends and have more in common than Mark and Matt could imagine. She is a dental hygienist and just moved to Houston a year ago with Mark. Amber rivals "Snow White" as the world's biggest animal lover, loves trying new foods, is a "pranskster," adores her family, and is happiest at the beach. Mark, Amber, Matt, and Jen have traversed the globe to Italy, France, CA, and other destinations. Jen feels lucky to adopt the best sister-in-law a girl could ask for.

    Chelsea Andersen

    Bridesmaid

Jen met Chelsea when she started at the Advisory Board Company 10 years ago. They became friends at Chelsea's 24th birthday (aka. Tank Top Time!). Chelsea loves pizza, the color pink, the raw bar at Clyde's in Georgetown, dogs, Pinot Grigio, pearl necklaces, people's quarks, books, and is tied in her love for the Colorado Rockies and Washington Nationals (Shane is a big San Francisco Giants fan). She is also obsessed with the Olympics and is currently beating Matt in his own Olympic pool (to Matt's chagrin). Chelsea got married to Shane lake-side in a golf course in October, in her old William and Mary College town of Williamsburg; Jen and Chelsea have shared many a "Wedding War Room Wednesday," enjoying 1/2 price raw bar at Clyde's in Georgetown. Chelsea is also the proud owner of a new home and dog, Polly.

    Andrea Guidry

    Bridesmaid

Jen met Andrea when Jen interviewed Andrea for a job at the Advisory Board 10 years ago. Good thing Jen said "yes," since they've been friends ever since. From MA trips to karaoke nights, shopping for holiday party dresses, birthday parties, their Hawaii trip, and traveling the miles for friends' weddings, Jen and Andrea have shared many memories. Andrea moved back from Austin 1 year ago and in with her boyfriend Paul Bobb. Andrea loves: karaoke, New Vegas Lounge, rap and R&B, dancing, table service, dressing up, Bud Light Lime, and Mariah Carey; Andrea hates: baby corn, strobe lights, and traffic. She is publicly lactose intolerant, so matter how much she begs you for queso, don't let her have it (your welcome, Paul).

    Courtney Hagen

    Bridesmaid

Courtney "aka. Comrade Court" has been Jen's friend for 11 years. They met right before Jen's senior year at UVA, when they both lived on The Lawn. Traveling all over for trips to see friends, vacations for new years, Foxfield, visits to the Jersey Shore and "Feeney's Patio Bar," they've covered the miles. Court is an avid believer that "good things happen when we have cosmos" which includes rides with NFL players and in Teslas and private boat excursions to Alcatraz. She is a lover of travel (having recently gotten back from China and is preparing to leave soon for India), politics, fine wine, Patriots Football, pizza, and UVA. Court got married 2 years ago to Don Auerbach and is a proud owner of a home in Capitol Hill and dog, Caper.

    Ginny Lee

    Bridesmaid

14 years ago Ginny interviewed Jen to participate in "UVA Lead," after which they became fast friends. Ginny convinced Jen to move to DC and work at the Advisory Board. Moving up in the world, Ginny attended Roth Business School. Since then she has been at Target's corporate headquarters in Minneapolis and she is currently head buyer for seasonal candies (if you go to that aisle, you'll see Ginny's masterpiece!). Ginny loves the outdoors and is one of the most active and athletic people Jen knows. She participates regularly in triathlons and is an avid cyclist. She's also the proud owner of a cat, Bullwinkle (just don't go to sleep or he may gnaw on your face). When visiting Jen 2 years ago, Ginny met her boyfriend Brian, at Kelsey's annual Halloween bash. Ginny is currently on DC's most wanted (to move back) list.

    Whitney LeRoux

    Bridesmaid

Jen met Whitney 30 years ago when they entered Key School in Annapolis together. Referred to as "the Giggle Girls" in Mrs. Clevenger's 1st grade classroom and going to school until college, nothing has changed. From the playground to ballet lessons with Mrs. Easter, piano lessons with Mrs. Elvy, field hockey and lacrosse, eating steamed crabs, winery tours, tubing in Harper's Ferry, and Whitney's recent wedding in Mexico, Jen and Whitney have been life long best friends. Whitney recently married Wayne at a beautiful beach wedding in Cancun. She splits her time between Annapolis and Charleston, SC where she recently bought a house. Whitney is the proud "mother" of 2 guinea pigs, Cammie and Oinks, whose attire rivals those by Oscar de la Renta and Vera Wang.

    Brittny Seidman

    Bridesmaid

Britt aka. "my sister" met Jen 10 years ago when Jen served as Brittny's mentor at the Advisory Board. After many "scripting" sessions, Brittny and Jen knew they were lifelong friends, and took pleasure in making work fun and pranking their teammates. Britt is lover of all things seaside, warm weather, oysters, steamed crabs, fresh seafood, gold jewelry, shopping, Lionel Ritchie, and Kelly Clarkson. A Sewickley, PA native and Syracuse grad, her fashion sense is impeccable and her sense of humor is about as PC as the gutter, but that's why everyone loves her!!!! Brittny recently married DJ in a gorgeous mountain-side wedding in the heart of Denver. They are the proud owners of a home in Capitol Hill and recently adopted a dog from DJ's mom, Daisy.

    Kelsey Thompson

    Bridesmaid

Kelsey and Jen met 10 years ago when Jen was Kelsey's mentor at the firm. Having just graduated from Lynchburg College, the "Se" was always up for anything. Kelsey is an expert chef and host, and currently works for the National Zoo in DC as an event planner. She throws the most amazing annual Halloween bash, the world-famous event also responsible for introducing Ginny and her boyfriend Brian Attaway. Kelsey married John 2.5 years ago at Oxon Hill Manor just outside of DC in a lovely "Great Gatsby" themed wedding. They are the proud owners of a home in Falls Church, with a yard about the size of and as awe-inspiring as Buckingham Palace. They are proud owners of their dogs, Allagash and most recently Taylor.

    Our Wedding

    Honeymoon

On the Monday following the wedding, we made the long trek to the South Pacific to the islands of French Polynesia. Our trip was wonderful and landed us in the most pristine area we are likely ever to visit. After flying into Tahiti, we took a boat to Tahiti's neighboring island, Moorea, where we stayed three nights at the Hilton and enjoyed kayaking, a "Bachelor"-esque private dinner on the beach, a sunset cruise on a catamaran, and an inland "safari." At least Matt was displeased that the hotel engaged in nightly "shark feedings," which beached him for our time there.

We then travelled to Tahaa, an outpost that took flying to 5 different islands to get there thanks to a few minor plane difficulties (in one instance, the French pilot announced he was aborting a descent because "I can't see the runway"). Once there, we enjoyed our first ever overwater bungalow where we could wade into the water with various fish, tried our hand at tennis, and truly relaxed.

For the latter part of our trip, we stayed in Bora Bora at the St. Regis, home of the movie "Couples Retreat," which shockingly played 24 hours a day on the hotel's tvs (one of two channels in English as everything else was in French). While there, we jet-skied around the full island of BoraBora, jumped in the water off our room's balcony, went to the mainland for the cultural festival (the Hee'va), and did some snorkeling.

Overall, a banner trip, and a great way to spend our first two weeks as a married couple!

    About Us

    The Proposal

    January 20, 2013:

Having physically received the ring the preceding day, Matt had prepared on proposing on Saturday, Jan. 19th but Jen did not feel well all day so Matt had to postpone. On Sunday, as Washington was preparing for the President's second inauguration the following day, Matt decided he could wait no longer. Frigid oustide, he and Jen walked to lunch at Graffiato with Jen's friends Andrea, Omari, and some others. Following lunch, rather than walk to the National Mall in the frigid temperatures to examine the inauguration preparations (the original plan), Matt audibled to the National Portrait Gallery.

Given that the Gallery was hosting a Civil War exhibit, that made for a convincing reason and Jen had no idea what was in store. After surveying most of the rooms in the museum, Matt persuaded Jen to have a seat on a bench in the center of Room 242 in front of Jasper Francis Cropsey's "The Coast of Genoa." Yes, Matt got on his knee to ask the big question after receiving permission from Jen's father, mother, and brother a few nights earlier.

    About Us

    Our Story as a Couple

Brandon Almond, a UVA friend of Jen's and a W&L friend of Matt's, developed the master plan to set Jen and Matt up at the beginning of 2009. Allegedly, this is the only time he has every played matchmaker. Well done Brandon.

On January 16, 2009, after an email invitation, Jen met Matt at Zola before attending the Washington Wizards vs. New York Knicks game on the Friday night preceding President Obama's first inauguration. The Wizards, mysteriously wearing "Zephyrs" uniforms, won the game in dramatic fashion (something they were not prone to doing), and Jen and Matt decided to have an impromptu dinner at the now-closed TenPenh.

One week later, Matt took Jen on an unorthodox second date, attending a Monster Truck Rally along with Matt's brother Mark, Mark's wife Amber, the aforementioned Brandon and his wife, and a host of Matt's friends from Sutherland. Not shockingly, Jen had never previously attended a Monster Truck Rally. The following week, a more conventional third date took place (dinner and a movie) and the rest is history.

Since meeting 5 years ago, Matt and Jen have continued growing closer as a couple. They have taken countless trips together, having travelled together to 22 states, Puerto Rico, a trip to Panama to visit Dylan Sacchetti while he was in the Peace Corps, Italy and France with Mark and Amber, and a Matt-organized trip to the London Olympics that consisted of attending 17 events (and fortunately did not end the relationship!). To see more pictures from some of these trips, see the "Photo Gallery" section of this website.

    About Us

    The Groom: Matt's Story

Matt was born and raised in Charleston, W.Va. The oldest of three boys, folllowing and playing sports were a staple of his childhood (for example, many family vacations centered on Mountaineer bowl trips). Matt played baseball at George Washington High, wrote for the sports section of the daily newspaper at WVU, and then went to law school at W&L (coincidentally, the same law school Jen's father attended).

Known to many as Gatewood, Gates, or The General (the last of which Jen claims is self-proclaimed but was in fact earned on the GW High School student council retreat in the West Virginia backcountry in 1998), Matt clerked for Judge Goodwin in W.Va. following law school before starting his career as a litigator at Sutherland in Washington.

He has a knack for facilitating entertaining events/quests. For example, he led 20 friends including Jen (likely against her wishes) on a 25-mile "death march" to all 177 foreign embassies in D.C., has seen every movie nominated for Best Picture since 1944, and has run various sports "leagues" and "pools" since junior high.

Five years ago, Matthew met Jen and was immediately smitten with her charm and unrivaled kindness to others (and him). Jen and Matt got to know each other during the first part of 2009, going on at least one date a week for the first few weeks of that year, and then started to get much closer as 2009 wore on. Fortunately, Matt's story can no longer be told without Jen.

    About Us

    The Bride: Jen's Story

(For incriminating photos from Jen's childhood, scroll through the album on the left-hand side by clicking the "right arrow button" beneath the first photo; most pages contain photo albums)

Jen grew up in Annapolis, MD with her parents, Nancy and Ken, and her older brother Jason. Her grandparents are her dad's parents Vicki and Reggie Scott and her mom's father, Ben Jones (her grandmother Nancy Jones was deceased before Jen was born). As a child, Jen was a fun loving girl - quick for a laugh - and she loved (LOVED) stuffed animals, friends, and activities including gymnastics, piano, ballet, flute, cheerleading, tennis, church choir, acolyting ... the list goes on!

She attended Weems Creek Nursery School, followed by Key School for elementary school, and then Severn School for middle and high school, where Jen was actively involved in Student Council, lacrosse, and field hockey.

Jen then went to UVA where she was involved in a number of activities from UVA Lead, Class Trustees, resident staff, athletic training, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and club lacrosse. During her 4th year, Jen received the opportunity to live on the Lawn, in her father's Lawn Room, 25 West. There, she met some of her best friends, "The Lawnees," and they've been thick as thieves since.

For the last 11 years, Jen's lived in DC, and has worked for the Advisory Board Company, in sales and marketing, though primarily in Training and Development (for the last 9 years). There she has met some of her closest friends and confidants and her list of outings, activities, hobbies, karaoke events, birthday parties, and vactions with fellow coworkers/friends is exhaustive.

Jen feels beyond lucky to have met the man of her dreams, Matt Gatewood. He is everything Jen could imagine - kind, funny, smart, passionate, service-oriented, curious, loyal, direct, balanced, organized, loving, caring, deep, and extremely sentimental. He loves trying new things and visiting new places, and thus has exposed Jen to a good deal including his love for sports, eclectic food, WV, the olympics, and international travel. He would do anything for his family and friends, and for Jen, and she feels grateful for every minute she spends with Matt. She's excited to build their lives together, and she continually works to be the best support, friend, confidant, and future wife for Matt possible.

    Welcome

D.C. Visit from Matt's Mom & Maw Maw Jo

    Tuesday, February 18, 2014

The only thing that could draw Matt's attention away from the Sochi games is a visit from his mom Becky and Maw Maw Jo. The group hit the town at Ruth's Chris.

    Snow, Valentine's, and Olympic Hockey

    Saturday, February 15, 2014

After surviving D.C.'s biggest snowstorm since February 2010 (when Jen was stuck at Matt's apartment for several days), Matt & Jen took to I Ricchi in DuPont for an Italian-style Valentine's Day dinner. This morning, they hosted a crew to tune in live to the U.S. vs. Russia hockey game from Sochi - Jen whipped up white russians and eggs and all were in good spirits, especially after the thrilling outcome.

    Sochi Olympics

    Wednesday, February 5, 2014

The Winter Olympics kick off this weekend - although we served as Olympic correspondents for the London games, the big day in June will keep us from venturing to 'Mother Russia' but rest assured we will be watching closely from home (Matt likely much more than Jen) ...

    Days Getting Longer

    Saturday, January 4, 2014

Between the time you read this message and the wedding, every day that will pass in that time frame will contain more daylight than the previous day. Given the wedding date on the Summer Solstice, we can guarantee it.

Save the Dates Almost Ready ...

    Saturday, January 4, 2014

We know, we got engaged last January and you still have not received an official Save the Date card. Do not fear, they are nearly ready to send out - in the interim, SAVE THE DATE ... June 21, 2014!

    Registry Soon To Come

    Saturday, January 4, 2014

We promise that we will actually complete a registry for those asking ... we are hoping to do so by the end of January.

    Welcome

    Greeting

Welcome to our wedding website. Although you likely aren't quite as excited as we are about the big day in June, hopefully you are looking forward to a great time on the Eastern Shore with family and friends.

We created this website to provide logistical information, tidbits about us, and a few pictures (some of which you will hold over Matt's head for the rest of his days). Reach out if you need additional information at any time.

We chose St. Michaels because generations of Jen's family is from the area and her family sailed there when she was young. In recent years, we fell in love with the town, adoring its charm, cuisine, history, and Southern-style hospitality. We hope you enjoy St. Michaels as much as us.

While you're here, please sign the Guestbook!
